We are located in the heart of Puglia, right in its beating center.
Massafra is a welcoming, sunny town with mild temperatures throughout the year, thanks to its proximity to the sea.
Upon arrival, you will notice a fortress rising over the distinctive profile of the city: this is the Massafra Castle, a fortress dating back to the Lombard-Byzantine period, architecturally enriched by subsequent dominations, first by the Angevin, and later by the Aragonese.
Part of the building now houses the Public Library, open to the public, a Museum of the Rupestrian Civilization, and other walkable areas that can be visited for free by reservation.
Massafra is one of the 14 municipalities that make up the Regional Natural Park called Terra delle Gravine, the city has four main Gravines: the San Marco Gravine, the Santa Marina Gravine, the Santa Caterina Gravine, and the Madonna della Scala Gravine.
These large natural karstic gorges can be admired during any walk in the city, and, at certain times of the year, they are also walkable thanks to themed trails created by specialized professionals.
Within one of these canyons it is possible to admire a true gem, rare not only for our city but for the entire surrounding Puglia region, known as the Sanctuary of Madonna della Scala, located within the homonymous Gravina, which can be accessed by descending the 125 steps that separate it from the surface.
A unique marvel, with its own history and tradition, to be visited and admired at least once in a lifetime (and don‘t worry, it is also accessible by elevator).
Massafra is also distinguished by its majestic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the several historically significant churches scattered throughout the city, as well as its Three Historic Centers, traditionally recognized as ”Rioni” : the Rione Santi Medici (where our Residences are located), the Rione Gesú Bambino, and the Rione Pappacoda. An experience not to be missed is walking through all three of them.
Massafra is strategically located, allowing easy access to all the major points of interest in our wonderful region.
For nature lovers and its wonders, a must is the exploration of the Regional Natural Park of Terra delle Gravine.
This is a protected natural area that spans across 14 municipalities, 13 of which are in the province of Taranto, making it in close proximity to Massafra.
Each town, in addition to being an integral part of the park, preserves ancient craft traditions (Grottaglie, for example, is the city of Ceramic Art) and boasts the typical beauty that characterizes this part of Puglia.
The Murgia and the Itria Valley are two of the most captivating and scenic regions of Puglia, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and culture. The Murgia is a vast plateau characterized by its rugged landscapes, rolling hills, and dry stone walls, while the Itria Valley is known for its charming villages, olive groves, and famous trulli houses. Together, they create a unique and picturesque area that attracts visitors from all over the world.
In this area, you can experience the beauty of the countryside, the rich local traditions, and the warmth of its people, making it a perfect destination for anyone seeking a true taste of Puglia.
